SALT LAKE CITY, UT– Utah men’s tennis will be heading to Los Angeles, California this week to take on the Lamar University Cardinals on Wednesday, finishing up with the Loyola Marymount University Lions on Thursday.
The matchup on Wednesday against Lamar will be held at the Loyola Marymount University Tennis Center, with play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. MST. Then on Thursday, the Utes will face Loyola Marymount at 9 a.m. MST, with the match being held in the LMU Tennis Center as well.
The Utes most recent matches was a road trip back East, coming home with a 1-2 record after facing the University of Iowa, Marquette, and the University of Illinois-Chicago. Against Iowa, the Utes were defeated in a very competitive match, with the Hawkeyes edging out on top with a final score of 4-3. The Utah men’s tennis team then fell to Marquette with a final score of 4-3, but then came back to end their road trip with a victory, sweeping the University of Illinois-Chicago 7-0. Against Illinois-Chicago, the doubles team of Joe Woolley and Azat Hankuliyev carded a key win for the Utes by taking the doubles point against Christian San Andres and Kailash Panchapakesan, with a final score of 6-3, at the No. 3 position. Then in singles play, the Utes quickly finished things up with wins in straight sets by Micevski, Sierra, Woolley, and Weverink.
Lamar University is coming off a win against USC Upstate, with a final score of 4-3. With this win, Lamar has now won consecutive matches and five of their last six. Against USC Upstate, Lamar took the early advantage by taking the doubles point, with singles play coming down to the final match for Lamar to card a win. Senior Juuso Laitinen went into a third set against Upstate’s Francisco Neto, with a final score of 7-6 (10-8), 3-6, 6-3, finishing things off for the Cardinals to take the win.
The Loyola Marymount men’s tennis team is coming off a split weekend, losing to Utah State with a final score 0f 4-0, but then came back to defeat Georgetown later in the day with a final score of 4-2.
