SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Utah Men’s Tennis will open its third weekend of home matches this Friday at the Eccles Tennis Center when they will match up against the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers at 5 p.m. On Sunday the Utes will host the New Mexico Lobos at 1:30 p.m. and the Montana Grizzlies at 6 p.m.
“We look forward to another great weekend of tennis against three tough opponents,” said head coach Roeland Brateanu. “With three additional women’s matches this weekend, there will be a lot of great tennis at the Eccles Tennis Center.”
The Utes have an opportunity to finish regional play undefeated if they manage to defeat New Mexico and Montana.
On Friday, the Utes will be announced by a new MC as part of the Student-Athlete Appreciation Day. Additionally, food will be served during the intermission between doubles and singles play. There will be a potluck tailgate open to the public in the lobby of Eccles Tennis Center 1 hour prior to first serve.
The Utah Utes return home after defeating BYU and Boise State last weekend. The Utes defeated the Cougars 4-2, and the Broncos 4-1. The Utes are currently 8-1 on the season, only having lost to #3 Ohio State at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
The Nebraska men’s tennis team has started the season off slow and is coming off a 7-0 loss to Fresno State.
New Mexico Lobos
The University of New Mexico Men’s tennis team is also coming off a loss from this past weekend, losing a tight match to Cal Poly, 4-3. Prior to their matchup with the Utes, New Mexico will face BYU (Friday) and Nebraska (Saturday).
The University of Montana Grizzlies are coming off a victory this past weekend, defeating North Dakota 6-1. Montana’s three doubles teams swept North Dakota to win the doubles point. Ignacio Tejerina picked up the first win at the No. 6 position, 6-2, 6-2, while Victor Casadevall was victorious at the No. 3 spot 6-2, 7-6. Mimnagh-Fleming then cruised past North Dakota’s Alex Mailes 6-4, 6-1 for the Grizzlies’ third-straight win.
