Micevski Continues Dominance at NCTC, Retires in Final

Palm Springs, Calif- David Micevski continued his dominance at the NCTC on Sunday at the Sunrise Country Club.

Fellow Ute Parker McGuiness retired in his first round consolation match while playing teammate Eggy Weverink. In other consolation action, Azat Hankuliyev lost to the no. 1 seed Guilherme Handlich from Pepperdine 6-1,6-2. Joe Woolley won a hard fought 3 setter over Christian Brocksteadt, and losing 6-2,6-4 to Guilherme Hadlich of Pepperdine.

Eggy Weverink made a run to the third round of the consolation bracket. After defeating Parker McGuiness by retirement, Eggy took out Mert Zincirli 3-6,6-4,10-4. In the third round, Weverink lost to Guilherme Hadlich 7-6(1),6-3.

In doubles action, Joe Woolley and Dan Little made a run to the finals, losing to Van Slyke/Menichella (Pepperdine) 6-4. Pairs Eggy Weverink and David Micevski, as well as Parker McGuinness and Slava Shainyan lost in the first round.

“After a dissapointing start to the tournament for the team as a whole, it was nice to see progress today in the attitude and performance of several players. David competed extremely hard and got closer to the level he will need for PAC-12 play than he has so far this year. Joe and Dan also began to find some chemistry on the doubles court and played at a very high level in all 4 matches” said Associate Head Coach Dan Pollock, “The match play and pressure situations we faced in this tournament were a good wake up call for the team as we head into an extremely tough dual match schedule starting next weekend.”

The Utes are back in action for a double header this Saturday at 11 am vs. Idaho State, as well as Weber State at 4 pm.
