Micevski Cruises into Quarterfinals at NCTC

Palm Springs, Calif.- After a washed out first day of the NCTC, the Utes of Utah were back in action Saturday.

“It was a long wait to get playing, but you don’t control the weather,” said head coach Roeland Brateanu. “We played a lot of tennis today and look forward to play a lot more the next couple of days.”

Following a first-round bye, Utes’ sophomore standout David Micevski defeated USF’s Worvin Kumthonkittihul (USF) 6-1,6-3 securing his spot into the quarterfinals. The no. 2 seed will face Sidney (Pepperdine) in the quarterfinal round on Sunday at 9am.

Dan Little opened his 2017 campaign with a quick 6-1,6-4 victory over Boise State’s Greg Wischer. In his second match of the day, Little lost a heartbreaker to no. 4 seed Pedro Iamachkine from Pepperdine 6-1,2-6,6-4. The match was stopped and restarted three times due to court changes and rain delays.

Freshman Slava Shainyan lost a hard fought 6-7(4), 6-1,6-4 battle to Dane Esses from Pepperdine. Earlier in the day, Slava took out another Pepperdine Wave Guilherme Galvao 6-1,6-0.

Parker McGuiness,  Egbert Weverink, Azat Hankuliyev and Joe Woolley will be competing in the consolation bracket after first round losses. Azat Hankuliyev was defeated by former Ute Johan Joenhagen 6-0,6-4.
