Utah men's tennis Joe Wooley

After sitting out last season, Joe Woolley impressed at his college debut.

Salt Lake City, UT- The Utah Utes started the year off slow at the 2016 Utah Inviational Tournament at George S. Eccles Tennis Center on Friday. After losing both doubles matches in the morning, the Utes recovered by going 11-5 in singles action.

Four of the eight Ute competitors made their collegiate debut. Joe Woolley impressed with 2 singles victories, while freshman Slava Shainyan, Azat Hankuliyev and Benjamin Heck each won their second singles match of the day.

Lone senior Parker McGuiness, as well as juniors Egbert Weverink and Santiago Sierra each ran the table and won all of their matches, dropping only one set combined.

Dan Little, who impressed last fall, dropped two heartbreakers and went 0-2 in singles play.
