Albuquerque, NM – Four Utes remain standing and will head into the semifinals at the 2015 ITA Regional Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In doubles play, sophomores Santiago Sierra and Freddie McGeehan, in a massive upset, reached the semifinals by beating 4th seeded Rocha/James (Denver), 8-6. The Ute duo will face top seeded Sabatka/Van Leijsen (New Mexico) Saturday at 10am.
Two rounds of singles were played on Friday. Freshman Dan Little defeated two BYU players to reach the semifinals in singles. In the round of 16 he beat Andrey Goryachkov, 6-4, 6-2 and in the quarterfinals he defeated Keaton Cullimore with the same score. Little will play for a spot in the finals Saturday at 1pm against Yannick James (Denver).
Joining Little in the semifinals is senior Matt Cowley. The Utah native needed two tough 3-set matches to advance upsetting 3rd seeded Hayden Sabatka (New Mexico), 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 and 11th seeded David Fox (Denver), 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Cowley will face No. 2 seed Diogo Rocha (Denver) at 1pm on Saturday.
