2015 ITA Regionals in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque, NM – On a rare rainy day in Albuquerque, New Mexico, all 6 Utes advanced to the 2nd day at the 2015 ITA Regionals.

The Utes advanced all three doubles teams to the round of 16. Sophomore Freddie McGeehan and Santiago Sierra continued their win streak to 5, with a win over Fox/Ruder-Hook (Denver), 8-6, in the first round and followed it up with a victory over Asmar/Dehaan (New Mexico State), 8-3.

Fifth seeded Egbert Weverink and Matt Cowley enjoyed a bye in the first round, but in second round action defeated Handel/Schumann (NAU) in a closely contested match, 8-6.

Sixth seeded Parker McGuiness and Dan Little made their collegiate debut playing together with a victory over BYU’s Sullivan/Carrezedo, 8-6. They too enjoyed a bye in first round action.

In singles play, Santiago Sierra was the only Ute to make an appearance in the first round. After struggling in the first set, Sierra defeated Mimnaugh-Flemming (Montana) in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, to join five of his seeded teammates into the 2nd round. Due to rain, the second round has been rescheduled for Thursday.

Weather permitting, Thursday will hold 2 rounds of singles and 1 round of doubles.
