Utah Falls to No. 43 Stanford in Pac-12 Opener

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The University of Utah men’s tennis team (10-7, 0-1 Pac-12) was defeated 6-1 by No. 43 Stanford (9-4, 1-0 Pac-12) Friday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Junior Matt Cowley managed the Utes’ solo point at the No. 4 singles position.

The Cardinal captured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, and followed with five straight singles wins to clinch the match. After dropping his first set 3-6, Cowley battled back against Nolan Paige and took the second and third sets, 6-2, 7-6(5), respectively, to make the final score 6-1.

The Utes return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. PT in Berkeley to take on No. 30 California (13-5, 1-0 Pac-12) at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Watch the action via live-streaming video.
