Senior Slim Hamza is forced to withdraw from competition in the main draw of the All-American Championships after sustaining a significant knee injury at the ITF Futures in Costa Mesa, Ca last week.
“This obviously is a huge blow for Slim and the entire team,” said head coach Roeland Brateanu. “Slim is very eager to have a successful last season as a Ute and we will definitely miss his presence on the court this fall. All we can hope for is a speedy recovery and to have him back before competition in the spring. Unfortunately, these things are part of competitive athletics.”
No. 51 ranked Hamza was about to enter his second stint in the main draw of the All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma next week and was considered to be one of the top contenders for the title at the Regional Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada in October. He was voted as the team’s captain this past Saturday.
