No. 52 Utah Hosts Stanford, Cal in Pac-12 Opener

StanfordThe 52nd ranked University of Utah men’s tennis team (12-3, 0-0 Pac-12) will open conference play this weekend against Stanford (5-2, 0-0 Pac-12) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. MT and No. 16 California (10-3, 0-0 Pac-12) on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. MT. Both matches will be played at Coach Mike’s Tennis Academy, weather permitting.

“We’re excited to get Pac-12 play started,” said assistant coach Roeland Brateanu. “The guys have put in some great work these past couple of weeks and I think everyone understands the opportunities at hand.”

The Stanford Cardinal recently beat Nevada, 5-2, at home and will face UNLV in Las Vegas prior to traveling to Salt Lake City. Maciek Romanowicz is Stanford’s only ranked player in singles at No. 55. The doubles tandem of Romanowicz and John Morrissey is ranked No. 71.

Cal vs UtahThe California Golden Bears begin conference play at Arizona before taking on the Utes this weekend. They recently defeated No. 46 Pepperdine 4-3. Cal has four ranked singles players: No. 81 Campbell Johnson, No. 84 Ben McLachlan, No. 113 Andre Goransson and No. 117 Filip Bergevi. McLanchlan and Goransson are ranked No. 76 in doubles.
