Hamza Rolls into Round of 16 at Regionals

No. 84 ranked Slim Hamza rolled into the fourth round at the 2013 Regional Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday. The Ute dismantled BYU’s Andrey Goryachkov 6-2, 6-1 to advance. In the sweet 16 Hamza will face Henry Craig (Denver) on Friday.

In doubles play, the Utes advance two doubles teams into the round of 16. No. 1 seeded Devin Lane and Slim Hamza won their first match of the tournament, 8-2, over Carlson/Schuermans (Northern Colorado).

Cedric Willems and Cameron Lee had a strong showing in doubles as well, beating Idaho State’s Scheepbouwer/Swiggart 8-4. Both doubles team will play their round of 16 matches on Friday morning.

In consolation singles play Cedric Willems beat Austin Mayo (Northern Colorado) 6-3, 6-0, and Alejandro Medinilla avenged his second round loss by beating Dylan Hanslow (Utah State) 6-3, 6-1. Both Medinilla and Willems will continue in consolation singles play on Friday morning.
