For the second-consecutive year, the University of Utah’s intercollegiate athletic teams set a department record for the highest cumulative grade point average for the spring semester. Utah’s teams averaged a 3.153 GPA for the spring, besting the previous record of 3.136 from the spring of 2012. Utah has now posted six consecutive semesters with an athletic department GPA of 3.0 or better, another school first.
More than 60-percent of Utah’s student-athletes (278 of 434) made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.0 or better in 2012-13. Nearly a third of them–or 124 total–earned Dean’s List status, which requires a minimum GPA of 3.5. In total, Utah’s varsity teams posted a cumulative GPA above a 3.1 for the academic year.
The men’s tennis team did its fair share to contribute to these record numbers. Ben Tasevac, Cedric Willems and Slim Hamza all received Dean’s List status with GPAs over a 3.5. In total five tennis players, Dmytro Mamedov, Rafael Davidian, Ben Tasevac, Cedric Willems and Slim Hamza, made it onto the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in the spring semester. Overall the tennis Utes tallied a spring semester GPA of 3.12.
