In May of 2012 the University of Utah announced its plans for a $2 million project to build a 6-court outdoor tennis stadium and to upgrade the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. While the U is extremely busy completing the brand new $32 million athletics center, located immediately south of the tennis center, plans for the tennis project are starting to take shape.
The area between the new athletics center and the Eccles Tennis Center will be turned into a plaza that is intended to create a more open and welcoming feel, leading up to the entrance of the tennis center. The tennis center itself will see some major upgrades to the entry way on the south side of the building, electronic scoreboards, a state of the art web streamed video system and brand new locker rooms for the men’s and women’s tennis teams.
The outdoor tennis stadium will be build on the west side of the Eccles Tennis Center and will include elevated seating for fans, lighting, electronic scoreboards and a web streamed video system.
Construction is set to begin late summer or early fall of 2013.
