Utah’s men’s tennis team (7-1) will take on in-state rival BYU (9-2) in Provo, Utah, Saturday February 23 at 5.30pm. It will mark the 106th time the Utes and Cougars will square off against each other, and the Utes hold a 57-48 all-time advantage.
Scouting the Opponent
In the last polled ranking of the season, the BYU Cougars are ranked No. 45 in the country and have earned ranked wins against Santa Clara, Columbia, South Florida and Denver.
BYU has one nationally ranked singles player; Patrick Kawka ranks No. 74, while Kawka and his doubles partner Francis Sargeant rank No. 59 in doubles.
The Utes almost remained undefeated, but dropped a close 4-3 decision to Denver University on Friday. Utah did however regroup and beat UNLV on Saturday. The Utes are now 7-1 on the season, enjoying their best start since 2005.
