The University of Utah men’s tennis team (6-0) will host two regional opponents this weekend. On Friday February 15 the Utes will host No. 52 ranked Denver University at 5pm. The Denver Pioneers are currently 2-2 on the season with their wins coming against Air Force and Purdue, while their losses have come at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend against Pepperdine and Drake.
The UNLV Rebels and the Utes will square off Saturday February 16 at 12pm. The Rebels currently hold a perfect 5-0 record.
“We are expecting two very tough matches this weekend,” said head coach FD Robbins. “Both Denver and UNLV are two very good teams.”
To show appreciation to the fans for their continued support this season, the Utah men’s tennis team will be having free pizza Friday and Saturday. The pizza is first come first serve, so be sure to get to the match early to grab a slice of pizza and support your Utes!
Last Time against Denver
The Utes battled the 55th-ranked Pioneers last season on the road, suffering a 4-3 loss after capturing the doubles point and two singles victories from Alejandro Medinilla and Slim Hamza at the Nos. 6 and 3 singles positions.
Last Time against UNLV
Utah captured its first road victory of the season last year at UNLV. The Utes netted the doubles point in two sets and followed with four singles victories to clinch the 5-2 win.
• Utah improved to an undefeated 6-0 record after two victories in its second double header of the season last weekend. The record marks the best start for the Utes since 2005, when they started the season at a perfect 8-0.
• No. 52 sophomore Slim Hamza is currently on an impressive eight-match winning streak.
• Six Utes currently hold a dual-match singles record of 4-0 or better.
