Men’s Tennis to host annual Utah Intercollegiate Tournament

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men’s tennis team hosts the Utah Intercollegiate Tournament Thursday through Saturday at Liberty Park Tennis Center, weather permitting. Participating teams include Arkansas, BYU, Utah State, Weber State, and Utah.

Ute Singles Lineup
Utah’s first-seeded sophomore Slim Hamza will face Brandon Nielsen of Utah State in the first round Thursday while eighth-seeded junior Devin Lane takes on Weber State’s Ben Rode. Fourth-seeded sophomore Rafael Davidian will duel Utah State’s Matt Sweet as junior Ben Tasevac takes on Ryan Garner of Weber State. Junior Alejandro Medinilla will face Weber State’s Oliver Good while redshirt freshman Justin Archer battles Utah State’s Andrew Whiting. Finally, second-seeded senior Dmytro Mamedov will take on BYU’s Scott Bohne.

In the first round of dobules, Archer and Davidian duel Weber State’s Todd Fought and Sanjay Goswami. Medinilla and Mamedov will face Nikki Rae and Bohne of BYU, while third-seeded Hamza and Lane battle Utah State’s Whiting and Matt Thatcher.

Last Time at the Utah Intercollegiates
After advancing through singles competition, No. 2-seeded Mamedov was unable to clinch the title in the final round, falling to BYU’s No. 1-seeded Spencer Smith. Utah’s doubles duo of Medinilla and Ace Matias advanced through doubles competition to the final round before falling to Weber State’s Simon Unger and Good, 8-5.
