SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men’s tennis team announced the commitment of student-athlete Rafael Davidian, Wednesday. Davidian will join the Utes in January of 2012 and be eligible to play immediately.
“We are very proud to announce the commitment of Rafael Davidian,” said head coach F.D. Robbins. “Rafa is a very smart and talented young man with a lot of upside. We look forward to him making an immediate impact upon joining our team in January.”
The Hamburg, Germany native has consistently been ranked among the top 10 juniors in Germany and is currently ranked No. 4 in Canada (18 and under), where his parents currently reside. He holds a 3-0 record vs. other 5-star college recruits.
In April of 2011, Davidian reached the finals of an ITF G5 event in Canada. He is 1-1 against blue chip recruits this year, including an upset win against Evan Song, the sixth-ranked recruit in the nation according to TennisRecruiting.net. Davidian has also qualified for the main draw of an ITF Futures Tour event four times in the last 6 months.
Davidian will join the Utes from Burbank Charter School in Burbank, Calif., where he has spent the last two years.
